"IHF APPROVED BALL"

balltest

Regarding ball quality, nothing is left to chance. All the balls of the Kempa range are awarded the "IHF APPROVED BALL" seal. This seal distinguishes the production of high quality balls. To obtain this seal and to prove the quality levels, various tests had to be performed:

1. Circumference
The size plays a crucial role in ball control. Balls that are too large or too small are more difficult to handle. In this test, the size of the ball was measured at 16 different points, at an air pressure of 0.5 bar. The prescribed values of the "IHF APPROVED BALL" seal are set at 578 - 588 mm.

2. Sphere
To ensure a consistent trajectory and good feel for the ball, the spherical shape of the ball must be perfect. Once again, the ball is measured at 16 points. This time, the diameter is determined and the difference between the largest and smallest diameter must amount to a maximum of only 2% for an "IHF APPROVED BALL".

3. Weight
For precise passing action, the weight of the ball is an important factor. If the ball is too heavy, the player must exert significantly more force to perform an accurate throw. The exact weight of a ball is determined 3 times in a sealed enclosure at a pressure of 0.5 bar. The prescribed weight is at 425 - 475 g.

4. Rebound
The bounciness of a ball is determined by the air pressure of the ball. If this deteriorates too quickly, the rebound characteristics rapidly deteriorate. To prevent this, there is another test, where the air pressure is measured twice at an interval of 72 hours for subsequent comparison. In this case, the initial pressure of 0.6 bar may drop to 0.5 bar at the most.

In addition to the mandatory tests, we conduct further tests to verify the pressure drop, the shape and size consistency and the temperature stability. Furthermore, a relational test is performed, where the ball properties are determined at different air pressure levels.

The provided values apply only for IHF size 3 balls.
